There is a little known problem called severe mold allergy or mold poisoning. When you live in certain parts of the United States that are known to be very wet, you can have problems with mold allergies and not even know it. Those living in the Southern states are often found to suffer from mold allergies. The South is a very damp, humid climate. The air is constantly ridden with moisture and when you add to it the fact that it rains constantly during the summer, you’ve got one bad equation. You can end up with black molds in your home and become quite ill from it.
You can breathe in these toxic mold spores and begin to get very ill, over time. Many people experience symptoms that begin like any other cold or flu. You may have itchy, watery eyes, congestion and a cough. You may also develop issues with your ears and throat that appear normal at first. You must be careful because you could be getting very gravely ill.
A mold allergy can kill you, that’s all there is to it. The whole problem may start out, seemingly harmless. You may be sneezing, coughing or wheezing, thinking you have a common cold or asthma attack. While these symptoms may be treated with other medications, the chances are that they will come back when they are caused by a mold allergy.
Those who are fortunate enough to be diagnosed with severe mold allergy have undoubtedly undergone a miserable experience. Once you know what is causing your problems, you’re half the way home. The only sure fire way to diagnose a severe mold allergy is with an expensive blood test. Once they’ve confirmed that you do, indeed have the mold allergy, they can figure out what percentage of your blood is contaminated.
If you’ve been exposed to toxins for a long period of time, you may require several different mold allergy treatments. Your physician may try one and then move on if that didn’t give the desired effect. Antifungal medications are given orally and through an IV to patients with mold allergies. You may have had an ongoing mold allergy that was mistreated with antibiotics. Worst case scenario, full blood plasma pheresis may be required. This will clean your blood completely of the mold.
If you have allergies to mold that are on the same level as people who have hay fever or other seasonal allergies, you may be able to combat it with a cromolyn spray. Cromolyn is the only allergy medication targeted specifically at mold allergies. Cromolyn is available over the counter in a nasal mist but must be prescribed by a doctor for oral form.
When you use Cromolyn as a mold allergy treatment, you may be able to keep the mold allergy symptoms at bay. Taking Cromolyn products 7-10 days before you enter an area or situation where you know there will be mold will help in reducing your symptoms.
